Here are 10 Basic Email Tips About Email Security:
1. Have 2 Separate email address, one for personal email and a second for online purchases and signing up for forums and sites. If you wish you can add a third site for just forums and sites. The purpose of this is to avoid/minimize Spam for your personal email. I guarantee that as soon as you sign up for some site, make a purchase online, etc., sooner or later spam will have gotten your email address.
2. Never respond at all to any emails that tell you your account has been suspended, etc. Almost all of these are scams with possibly some virus attached. If you absolutely want to play it safe, phone the company. Do not respond by email and do not click any links.
3. If you get emails that ask if you no longer want email from them, just click a link or email back, don’t. It will only prove to them that you received the email, etc. What you should do is block any posts from that email address and/or website.
4. Never give your important information like Social Security number or Bank Account Number unless its for something like Google Adsense when a reputable company you know asks for the information.
5. Try not to respond to free offers, downloads, contests, etc., where they ask you for your email address and other stuff. That will only result in more endless spam email.
6. Open up a paypal account so you can use that to pay for online purchases instead of credit cards if possible. Otherwise if you can, have use just one credit card exclusively for online purchases and have
a limit of whatever you spend a month on their.
7. Do not give anyone your password and screen name.
8. Do not fill out any information about yourself on any Profiles in Your Email Account.
9. Do not open up any attachments unless you know and trust who sent them.
10. Remember anything you send on Email can be forwarded to people exponentially, so do not write anything that can get back to you and hurt you so think intelligently.
