2012 Movie Review Great Formulistic Family Fun Otherwise Sucked!

If you like Vanilla Formulistic movies you can enjoy with your whole family with generic happy endings, you’ll love the “2012″ movie and don’t bother reading the rest of this review because you won’t like it. Just take your family to 2012 and have a great safe exciting time. Same thing if you like special effects and the storyline isn’t that important to you. If you”re like me though and hate formulistic, predictable, paint by the numbers, generic happy ending movies, skip 2012 and rent “Miracle Mile” starring Anthony Edwards, a kind of realistic anti 2012 movie, instead.
If I’m sounding harsh it was because 2012 was the first movie I’ve seen in a movie theater in months and the first one I’ve seen the first day playing in years because it looked so awesome in the coming attractions. I figured at worst it would be Independence Day which I liked, happy ending and all, without Aliens, but it was like seeing a Walt Disney end of the World Movie.
Basically, it was so predictable that when all the characters are introduced in the first 15 minutes or so, you can guess with about 98% accuracy who will live and who will die and what will happen at the end of the movie. That’s not the kind of movie I’m into.
I also thought the “so called bad guy”, Carl Anheuser played by Oliver Platt was the movies only voice of reason and the “so called hero” Adrian Helmsley played by Chiwetel Ejiofor (that’s not a typo) was an idiot and a hypocrite who could have doomed humanity. In fact at the end of the movie, a few people applauded and I yelled boo and a bunch of people yelled “chithead” at me! If Family Fare end of the World movies is not your cup of tea, then I think you’d be disappointed with 2012 other than the Special Effects which were really good.
