A Tribute to Keith Morrison of Dateline - The Howard Cosell of Crime Reporting
First off I’m not talking about the guy who does the Perverted Justice Stories- that’s Chris Hansen but Keith Morrison of Dateline. I can’t get enough of this guy. To me he’s the Howard Cosell of Crime Reporting. I’m surprised they’ve never done a sketch on him on Saturday Night Live as far as I know.
To give Keith Morrison his props I’ve never seen someone report on so many bizarre, sleazy, idiotic almost pop culture murders as this guy and I don’t know how he sleeps at night getting into the world of these murderers and victims. But what I love, however sick this sounds is he totally gets into his story when reporting it and he eloquently makes each crime sound like the greatest tragedy since Adam and Eve!
The first thing one notices about Morrison is his somewhat bizarre appearance. He’s a distinguished looking guy don’t get me wrong, but his hair is all white as is his complexion (has the guy ever seen sun?) and he’s tall and slim and like I said he’s totally into his story and he tells it almost as if he’s reading Shakespeare. Maybe its the fact that he’s reporting on all these murders that make him appear bizarre as he looks more suited to be an anchorman not someone reporting on idiotic murders. By idiotic I mean no insult to the victims, RIP, but to the actual crime itself which for the most part no one in their right mind would do. The thing is, it’s almost as if he’s smirking when telling it. It’s like, imagine a Network TV Show doing a news story on “Deliverence” if it was a true story and talking about the guy squealing like a pig like Pearl Harbor was just invaded by the Japanese.
You never saw a Walter Cronkite do almost weekly stories on bizarre small town murders for example but Keith Morrison does and with great enthusiasm. The best tribute I can pay Keith Morrison is, if it wasn’t for him, I wouldn’t watch Dateline.
