Abby Sunderland Alive Let Her Sponsor and Parents Pay Rescue Cost

First off I’m glad Abby Sunderland, the 16 year old girl who attempted to become the youngest person to sail around the world alone without stopping, is alive according to the latest news reports. What I’m not happy about is that risk takers including teenagers who attempt their feats of daring for their own self glory and financial reward are being rescued at taxpayers expense- meaning you and I! Let them financially pay for their own Search and Rescue and if they don’t have the money to pay for it make it against the law for them to take out of the Ordinary Risks requiring public assistance.
If people want to attempt breaking records for world wide recognition- it’s interesting that almost all of these people don’t do their risky business privately but do it with publicity, that’s their business but they should be made to take out insurance to pay for their rescue if something goes wrong and not have the public wind up paying for their rescue out of our own pockets. If they don’t take out insurance, they simply should not be be legally allowed to publicize their activity and if anything then happens to them they’d be on their own. You may think this is mean spirited but why should the public have to subsidize these people for their own self glory.
Obviously this would have to be something that would be publicized and done way in advance in the future and I can’t provide details or specifics other then the general gist but again why should the public have to pay to rescue a thrill seeker who takes risks for their own glory and financial gain? I know, Bah Humbug. Sorry it kind of reminds me of the celebrities on American Idol Gives Back asking us middle class or below people to donate when they have enough money to donate themselves and pay for everything! Abby Sunderland’s sponsor and parents should pay the rescue costs not you or I!
