ABC Life on Mars If He’s In A Coma Like the UK Show You Will Have Wasted Your Time Plus Photo of the Original Replaced Cast
This is the original, since replaced Cast, including Colm Meaney of Star Trek fame who played Lt. Gene Hunt a role now played by Harvey Keitel. That pilot filmed with that cast has not been shown or released:

I was pleasantly surprised that I really like the American Life on Mars a lot better than the English version. It’s probably because I relate to this show as an American and thought the scene where Sam sees the World Trade Center still standing was incredible and I was more emotionally drawn to this show than the English one. My problem though hasn’t changed from what I’ve written below. When push comes to shove there is a 99% chance that it will end as the UK series did with him waking up from a coma, as the storyline doesn’t really leave many options. Somehow I pray the writers can compe up with the 1% chance of it ending differently. Until then, I’m going to continue watching this show and try to put aside that I’m sure I know the ending already and it is dull and unimaginative. THe original blog starts here:
I avidly watched the English TV Show “Life on Mars” because the people behind the show led me on and basically hinted that Sam Tyler was in something more than a coma or didn’t deny that the show wasn’t a Science Fiction Fantasy and sure enough it wasn’t. It was to be totally blunt a show about an English Policeman’s imaginary life in the 1970′s living in his coma only we didn’t know for sure till the last episode. So basically you watched a fictional story inside the fictional media of TV and what was happening with the Policeman and his adventures in the 1970′s didn’t matter because they were imaginary anyway. Whoopee, who cares. On the plus side, the music sound track was great as well as the acting, but what exactly was the point? Would you watch a TV Show if it turned out everything you were seeing was meaningless and didn’t exist anyway because it was all a fantasy life existing in a coma?
Life on Mars has now been remade for the US and we’ve been told in so many words that the ending won’t or doesn’t have to follow the UK coma one which will only give people reason to watch the show who wouldn’t if they knew the whole story or not. Whether or not the powers that be give the United States version a different ending or not remains to be seen. Frankly, I don’t trust anyone in Showbiz! But I can very well see the US “Life on Mars” end the same way and the producers giving some half ass lame excuse. I’ll probably watch the first two episodes because of Harvey Keitel who plays Lt. Gene Hunt and if I like the acting, I’ll still give the show a chance. Interesting enough this is the second pilot version of the ABC Life on Mars. The first pilot took place in Los Angeles with a completely different cast except for the lead, Jason O’Mara and the current ABC Life on Mars takes place in New York City, with a great cast consisting of Jason O’Mara, Harvey Keitel, Michael Imperioli and Gretchen Mol. All I can say is to anyone who hasn’t seen the English version, you’ve been warned!
