I always appreciate the historical bizarre and here believe it or not, is the last living witness of Abraham Lincoln Assassination meeting Lucille Ball on the great TV game show “I’ve Got a Secret” filmed live and broadcast on February 9, 1956! The last living witness of Abraham Lincoln Assassination, Samuel James Seymour born in 1860 was the last surviving person present in Ford’s Theater the night of the assassination of U.S. President Abraham Lincoln on April 14, 1865, at the age of 5. To quote Wikipedia, “He saw President Lincoln across the balcony as he was waving and smiling at people… all of a sudden a shot rang out-a shot that always will be remembered-and someone in the Presidents box screamed. I saw Lincoln slumped forward in his seat”. Seymour did not actually see the assassination but did witness Lincoln’s assassin John Wilkes Booth jump off the balcony and break his leg. In fact, he revealed that because he did not know Lincoln was shot or that Booth had shot him, his real concern was for Booth breaking his leg!”

Here’s the video which really isn’t very illuminating but is worth watching for posterity. I believe this is first and only time Lucille Ball was on the same TV show with a real life witness to the assassination of Abraham Lincoln!

To quote drsoos1 on You Tube “Imagine, he’d witnessed the assassination of Lincoln, lived through the assassination of two other presidents, seen the coming of the automobile, airplane, and also lived through two massive world wars and witnessed the advent of the atomic age. Wow!” Even more bizarre is that when Mr. Seymour died ninety-one years to the day of Lincoln’s assassination at age 96, it was rumored that he died as a result of injuries he suffered in the Hotel he was staying at to be a guest of “I’ve Got a Secret”! So a TV Game show killed the last living survivor of Abraham Lincoln’s Assassination. “You bastards”!
