After watching NBC Dateline, ABC 20/20 and CBS 48 Hours Mystery too many times, I’ve found one common denominator amongst many of the victims: They apparently never got a background check on the person they married.

Unless you want to wind up financially like Paul McCartney who obviously thought at the time it wasn’t right to get a pre-nuptial agreement for his second marriage if he truly loved someone, don’t think that for you to get a background check on your prospective bride or groom is not right. Who cares? It’s protecting yourself. One of the stupidest things I ever did in my life was not throw out or hide some racy stuff my ex-girlfriends had given me when my girlfriend moved in with me. I put them in my private (unlocked) file cabinet in my private den. Wrong! I thought if my girlfriend ever broke into to my private files in my private room, then our relationship would soon be over anyway. Right! But I was the one who got dumped even though those women were all in the past. I guess the naked photos they let me take didn’t help!

So basically what I’m trying to say is you can truly love someone but in my personal opinion you’re doing nothing wrong if you’re planning to get married by having a professional background check done on your partner in advance. Maybe if some of the victims on Dateline and 48 Hours Mystery had done this, they wouldn’t have been featured on these shows!
