Blog Promotion No One Entered Our Blog Contest No Prizes Won!
This past month, in an effort to increase Blog traffic, the Gifts and Free Advice Blog, ran our first Blog Promotion: A Blog Contest involving Football and Rock Music. See the Blog Contest Click Here If just one person had entered they could have won their choice of: 1. Though over 350 people read about the contest in our blog as well as countless others through our Press Releases no one entered. If just one person entered and got 1 of the 10 questions right, they would have won first prize. There is a lesson to learn here.

The first Beatle to touch U.S. soil was George Harrison who accompanied by his brother Peter, in Septenmber 1963 visited his sister Louise Harrison-Caldwell in Benton, Illinois where she had moved. During this time Louise would often visit local radio stations “plugging her brother George’s band called the Beatles”. The most current AP Football Poll when George Harrison stepped on US soil was September 23, 1963 with USC Ranked #1, Alabama 2, Oklahoma 3 and Texas 4

3. Which rock guitar legend’s childhood drawings of pro football games were exhibited at one time in the Rock Hall of Fame. I actually saw them and I think one of them was either of a Baltimore Colts or Cleveland Browns Playoff game. As this was years ago, I’m assuming they’re no longer on exhibit.

Jim Pons who was the bass player of The Turtles later was with Frank Zappa after the Turtles broke up and in 1973 Pons left the music industry to become the Film and Video Director for the New York Jets till he retired from the Jets in 2000. There were actually 2 former Turtles working for the New York Jets as John Seiter, the last Turtles drummer, later worked with Pons in the Jets Video Department where he still works and is now in charge.
5. Who was the first Beatle to attend a Pro Football Game? What was the date, Who were the teams, what was the score and where was it played?
John Lennon went to see the Los Angeles Rams Washington Redskins Monday Night Football Game of December 9, 1974 in Los Angeles Memorial Stadium. The Redskins beat the Rams 23-17. At half-time

6. What was the New York Giants connection to the first Pro Football Game a Beatle attended (See question # 5).
During the interview with John Lennon, Howard Cosell mentioned Los Angeles Ram player Fred Dryer who originally was with the New York Giants. Fred Dryer later starred on the TV series “Hunter” .
7. What is the Pro Football Connection between the Meatloaf album “Bat Out of Hell”? This question is not a typo.
New York Yankees and Baseball Hall of Famer Phil Rizzuto appears on the track “Paradise By the Dashboard Light” and Phil Rizzuto was Yogi Berra’s teammate. Yogi Berra’s son Tim Berra was on the Baltimore Colts in 1974 and was a punt and kick returner, with his longest kick return being 54 yards.
8. . Which Former Pro Football Player released on his record label a 12″ Record produced by the Easybeats George Young – Harry Vanda (also producers of AC/DC)? What was the name of the record and who was the recording artist?
Ben Scotti played in the NFL from 1959 till 1964. With his brother Tony, he founded the Scotti Bros. record label and one of the records they released was a 12 inch vinyl release of John Paul Young in 1978 Lost In Your Love / The Day My Heart Caught Fire Written and Produced by George Young and Harry Vanda formerly of the Easybeats. Ben also co-produced Television shows including Baywatch with his brother.
9. What member of a teenybop idol rock group in the 1960’s was recruited to play in the World Football League but decided to concentrate on another sport?
The late Dean Paul Martin of Dino Desi and Billy was recruited to play in the WFL but decided not to and played tennis instead in college (not sure if it was UCLA or USC).
10. What current College Football Quarterback was a member of an established Rock Band that released more than one album and had 3 album tracks chart in the US Mainstream Rock Charts. Name the high school and college teams he played for? Also name his band.
Kelan Luker was a star high school quarterback who played quarterback at SMU and backed up Josh McCown now in the NFL in 1999 and started some games in 2001 but then left SMU to play bass for the rock group Submersed who released the album In Due Time (2004) and Immortal Verses (2007).
They were on the US Mainsteam Charts for:
“Hollow” 2004 #19 In Due Time Album
“In Due Time” 2005 #31 In Due Time Album
“Better Think Again” 2007 #36 Immortal Verses Album
He left Submersed and with remaining football eligibility went back to college at Division II Tarleton State where he is now the back-up quarterback.
