Blu-Ray DVD Player Without HDMI Receiver or 1080P HDTV Facts to Save You Money
To anyone who plans to buy a Blu-Ray DVD player this year as the prices are becoming more and more affordable here are some important facts you should know before you make your purchase and wind up in a bottomless pit replacing your Audio/Video Receiver and your HDTV so you can get the true Blu-Ray picture and audio sound:
Blu-Ray Picture and Your HDTV if its Not 1080p (1080i is not 1080p)
I bought my 34″ and 48″ 1080i HDTV’s about 3 and 5 years ago and I love them. If you have 1080i HDTV you need to know that they are not the same as 1080p HDTV and that you need a 1080p HDTV to get the maximum Blu-Ray picture and in theory a Night and Day difference in your DVD picture from your regular DVD player (when playing Blu-Ray DVDs). If you have a 1080i HDTV you will only be getting about 70% of the Blu-Ray picture potential which will still result in a much better DVD picture but won’t result in a Night and Day difference in the picture. If your HDTV is 720, I’m guessing you will be wasting your money altogether if you buy a Blu-Ray DVD player for it.
Blu-Ray Audio Sound
Blu-Ray DVD players offers TrueHD Audio Sound which is superior to the current 5.1 Dolby Digitial or DTS Audio put out by your regular DVD player. You need an Audio/Video Receiver with an HDMI input in order to actually receive True HD Audio Sound if your Blu-Ray DVD player only has an HDMI output and not 7.1 analog outputs like the Panasonic DMP-BD35K 1080p Blu-Ray Player. However all is not lost if your receiver does not have an HDMI input. They sell Blu-Ray DVD players like the Panasonic DMP-BD55K 1080p Blu-Ray Player with a 7.1 analog output which will work on both 5.1 and 7.1 Audio Receivers without HDMI and still get you TrueHD Audio Sound. The Panasonic DMP-BD55K decodes HD Audio over the analog outs and sends the TrueHD Audio Sound into your receiver. You need to make sure though that other Blu-Ray players with 7.1 analog outputs also decode HD Audio as I am not sure if all of them do, sorry.
