Business Knowledge Shark Tank ABC Entertaining Business Knowledge

If you ever want to gain a broad understanding of how the Business World see’s concepts and products and be entertained at the same time, “Shark Tank” which just debuted on ABC is worth seeing. It’s the only “Reality TV” show that I’ve ever actually learned anything from. I’ve never learned anything from shows like “The Apprentice” however much I enjoyed it especially the earlier non-celebrity shows. What makes “Shark Tank” different to me is the “Sharks” who are a panel of five millionaire businessmen who listen to sales pitches on products and concepts that the “Contestants” want a “Shark” to invest in. The main “Shark” seems to be Robert Herjavec (far right in the above picture) who is very personable and seems to be the one who keeps the show moving. What I find fascinating, enjoyed and learned from, is not so much what the Sharks want to invest in but what they don’t want to invest in and why. I could care less of the people trying to pitch their products, to me the show is the Sharks themselves. So far their reasons for not investing and the advice they’ve given has been head and shoulders above anything else I’ve heard and learned on TV.

My criticism of “Shark Tank” which is a Mark Burnett Production, is I’m not convinced the entire show is genuine or to be specific, I think that some of the “Pitches” are contrived and presented by actors posing as real people and the “Obnoxious” Bald guy has overdone his “Simon Cowell” obnoxious bit way too much. In regards to my personal belief that not all the pitches are genuine done by Real Life People not actors, I could be wrong but the person who tried to pitch what sounded like having a Blue Tooth device implanted by an actual operation and operations needed on upgrades, sounded like total BS. I can’t even imagine this show even considering someone to make this pitch unless the show made it up in the first place! But as I said, I could be wrong.

As for the panel, the “Bald Guy” to me is playing a role but he’s way to over the top and he’s totally overdone it. Basically, the way the “Bald Guy” has presented himself is that no one in their right mind would want to do business with him because he gives the impression that he doesn’t care about anyone and that he would screw anyone who joined him 5 times over till Sunday without batting an eye. His advice is actually pretty good but he just over plays his “bad guy” role. The rest of the “Sharks” just seem more real and human and not contrived like “The Bald Guy”.

I seriously think would be entrepreneurs can pick up a lot of good advice in learning what type of products won’t work to sell in the marketplace and why as opposed to what products might sell in the marketplace and why.
