Cardio Bike Exercise at Home The Easy, Effective and Enjoyable Way

A few years ago I just got to the point that I couldn’t bring myself to get out of bed and jog. Jogging had become my sole way of getting cardio exercise and when I stopped jogging (which was my only form of exercise outside of lifting weights) I began putting on weight and my blood pressure levels started increasing and I developed Diabetes 2. Finally after a year of idleness, I got smart and bought myself an affordable upright exercise bike at home: The Schwinn 126 Exercise Bike (Pictured above) which I bought a Floor Model for $325 at a nearby Sporting Goods Store. I’m not sure if the Schwinn 126 is being sold today, its equivalent is the Schwinn 130 Exercise Bike which costs between $282 to $500 depending on the store. You can get it for $282.54 new from my Online Discount Gift Store by clicking this link. It took me about 3 or 4 months till I fine tuned my routine with electronic accessories to make my Cardio Exercise, easy, effective and enjoyable and this is my routine if you want to use this as a rough guide for yourself and make whatever tweaks you want.
1. To start out with I use as I said the Schwinn 126 Upright Exercise Bike. I was told by several sources that an upright exercise bike is a more effective way of exercising than an a recumbent bike which one should only used instead of an Upright bike if you have back problems. Regardless of the exercise bikes you use, I recommend you get one with an attached water bottle holder like the the Schwinn 126 or the Schwinn 130. I also recommend if you live in an apartment building that you get a good floor exercise mat to put your exercise bike over to minimize any noise to your neighbor below. My Schwinn 126 Exercise Bike is very quiet and I have a 3×4 foot exercise mat below it and when I ride it at 2:00 AM my neighbor doesn’t complain. The Schwinn 126 bike is 39″ x 23″ x 12.5″ and comes with an excellent rack on top. You can program the bike for different variable resistance levels. I choose just to use a set resistance and try to ride as long as I can for as comfortably fast as I can to duplicate my jogging. I usually peddle for 30 to 45 minutes at a time and go at least the equivalent of 6 miles. I try to make sure I am peddling at a speed of 12 miles an hour or better.
2. There’s no way I could ride my exercise bike without some kind of video stimulation so I ride it in front of my HD TV and watch either HD TV shows I recorded on my HD DVR or watch Blue-Ray or DVD Movies and use my Harmony Universal remote that fits easily on the rack of my exercise bike to control everything. So at minimum you need a plain TV, at maximum comfort level you should have your exercise bike in front of your home theater. My Home Theater for my bedroom which is where I keep my exercise bike includes a 34″ Panasonic HDTV, a Denon 3801 A/V Receiver, Orb Audio Mod 1 5.1 Speakers and Subwoofer, a Panasonic DMP-BD55K Blu-ray Disc Player, and an HD DVR Receiver from my Cable Company plus my Harmony 676 Remote Control. So I either watch movies or TV shows I recorded while I’m riding my exercise bike which makes the time go by considerably faster and I fast forward the commercials with my remote control while riding my exercise bike.
3. If I want to ride late at night or early in the morning and not annoy my neighbors, I simply ride the exercise bike and watch TV or movies while listening to my Pioneer Wireless 5.1 headphones, the Pioneer SE-DIR800C Dolby Digital 5.1 and turn off my Denon 3801′s volume. The Pioneer SE-DIR800C Dolby Digital 5.1 Wireless Headphones retail for $400 but are available for $249 at Online Discount Gift Store featuring 2010 Gifts at this link.
