Every College sports team ought to say thanks to Boston College for having the balls to do to their Head Coach what none of them ever dared - Not letting a Head Coach use their school as a stepping stone for themselve at the expense of [...]

I haven’t been following the National Hockey League in 30 years but I did follow the annual Outdoor NHL Hockey Winter Classic which has been a total success for the NHL in terms of everything (Attendance for the Game, Publicity, Goodwill, etc.). So why limit outdoor NHL Hockey games to once a year?

I just read a fascinating article on the High School Football State Champions Pulaski (Ark.) Academy’s No Punt Offense and was wondering why no NFL Team ever tried this.

I’ve always liked Steve Kerr both as a player and a person (from what I’ve read about him). However, from the outside looking in, as General Manager of the Phoenix Suns he has singlehandedly destroyed the Suns, one of the most entertaining and best teams in the NBA. I once had a boss like him [...]

Let me make 2 things clear from the start: 1. I think Plaxico Burress is a jerk and is guilty 2. I am not a bleeding heart liberal. I am also not a lawyer but I don’t think its right that a public official like New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg makes statements that may [...]

The 1965 New York Giants went and I kid you not, 4 for 25 in field goals made, a 16% rate. That’s right, they made 4 filed goals in 25 attempts.

Wow field goal kicking in the NFL sure has changed a lot in the last 40 years. Nowadays it seems if a kicker isn’t hitting 85% of his field goal attempts they’re history but not so in the NFL past. Take the case of the 1965 New York Giants. I had to read this from 4 different online sources to believe this. I’m guessing off the top of my head that the 1965 New York Giants had the NFL’s worst field goal record in the last 50 years and I can’t figure out how prey tell this was allowed to happen. The thing I hate most about the NBA isn’t the fact that its referees allow NBA Superstars to play by a different set of rules then the rest of the players, its that NBA Commissioner David Stern seems to deny this goes on. Check out the latest example of special rules for an NBA player. [...]

If you’re going to die, you may as well do it with style the way Don Doane did on October 16, 2008, in Ravenna, Michigan by becoming the first Bowling Urban Legend, by dying right after he bowled his first 300 Perfect Game at the the Ravenna Bowl. It obviously was a shame that Don [...]

This Blog is purely speculation on my part, but I’m guessing Marshall University and University of Houston Wide Receiver Patrick Edwards will eventually settle amicably out of court as it would be the common sense thing to do and hopefully the NCAA will do the right thing for once and not interfere. There are 2 videos of the play on the blog: One the whole play, the other a closeup from the end zone.

One thing I don’t understand about some NFL teams today is why after say their first 4-6 games they don’t realize that they are mediocre at best and by using the same plays with the same personnel they are just due to drone the season out producing terrible to mediocre results? In the 1970’s, the [...]

I actually liked One Tree Hill the first couple of couple of years on TV as it kind of kept it real and it used basketball like Friday Night Lights on NBC uses football but not quite as good. Over the last few years the show to me has become “Melrose Place on Crack” and I feel ashamed of watching it but somehow I still do. Of all the insane things they’ve done though and the most unrealistic is the storyline about Nathan’s Scott’s comeback attempt to play in the NBA.

Green Bay Packers Aaron Rodgers to me is the NFL Player of the year and to me has put together the best NFL Season on a player since Kurt Warner won Super Bowl XXXIV with the Cardinals. I realize Rodgers excellent statistics don’t come close to supporting those two statements on statistics alone but when you consider the intense pressure Aaron Rodgers has come over from his home team fans and the media, I think Rodgers year has been incredible.

This is Part 2 of a Series I’ve written on this Blog comparing the results of the 2004 Female Olympic Team with those of 1924 Mens Olympic Team on the exact same events. The results with 2 Major Exceptions are probably what you expected as opposed to Part 1 which compared the 2004 Women’s Team with the 1904 Mens Team in the same exact events and the results were startling. A Link for Part 1 is included in the beginning of this blog.

Now that Yankee Stadium is no more, I’d like to share with you my greatest day in Sports when as a 9 year old living in New York City, on September 9, 1961, on Whitey Ford Day, my father who did advertising for one of the New York Yankees clients, got us first row box seats and an invitation to watch the Mel Allen show live in person. Those were the good old days and I worshiped everything about the Yankees then. Eventually I discovered girls and I lost interest in baseball and the Yankees. But my late father used to take me to a lot of baseball games when I was a kid and those were my best times with him.

While it’s early in the NFL season, I now truly believe that New England Patriots Bill Belichick is the NFL’s Most Valuable Player. I know he’s a Head Coach but I truly believe that if an NFL Team could pick up anyone in the League for say a flat $25,000,000 plus salary, most NFL teams would pick up Bill Belichick rather than a player like a Tom Brady or a Peyton Manning other than the teams that are satisfied with their Head Coaches.

While I don’t condone what he said and if Howard believes what he said that’s his business but to put this in dolars and cents common sense terms, sometimes its better not to say out loud what you believe, in this case “by keeping it real” you are going to be hurting yourself financially as chances are you are now seen as to controversial and disrespectful in terms of endorsement opportunities,

The San Diego Chargers make no mistake about it, got a lousy deal about losing to the Denver Bronco’s because of a Referee’s mistake this week. I’m not defending the Ref’s mistake or giving the stupid cliche line. “It’s part of the game”, but what I find totally hypocritical about NFL
