If you are trying to sell a product or advertise your specialized services like Computer Repair, guitar lessons, etc., using the word “Cheap” for your services or products in your internet advertising or listings will cost you dearly. You should avoid using the term Cheap altogether or anything similar in your internet marketing advertising unless you really believe you are going to get mass quantity business that will be worth your while. You never want to use any word or connotation that is below the term “Affordable” in your online marketing advertising.
Psychologically, when people see the word “Cheap” they automatically think of a cheap shoddy product or undependable below average services offered by someone without any real expertise or worth. Unless someone is totally desperate they will avoid responding to anything advertised or described as cheap. People want quality for their money and “Cheap” does not denote quality.
At times listing for something at a price above the norm may actually bring in more business because customers think they are getting top notch quality because of the high price. Conversely listing something at a price below the norm may actually hurt business because customers think that there is something wrong with the product.
So what should your advertised price line be? I recommend just using the word “affordable” and the phrase “Best Bang for your buck” in your ads and descriptions.
