Real Chimpanzees filmed and directed their own movie for the BBC Natural World programme “Chimpcam” using a specially designed monkey-proof camera given to them by primatologists. No this isn’t an April Fools Joke and the Sound track isn’t “Hey, Hey, We’re the Monkees”! Betsy Herrelko, a primatologist, introduced video technology to 11 chimpanzees living in a newly built enclosure at Edinburgh Zoo, UK. Over 18 months, she introduced video technology to a group of 11 chimpanzees living in a newly built enclosure at Edinburgh Zoo, UK. The chimps soon displayed an interest in film-making.

Ms Herrelko somehow was able to teach the chimps to use a touchscreen to select different videos which revealed which images the chimps like to watch. She then gave them what is dubbed a “Chipcam” a camera in a box that protected from damage from the chimps.

I hope this TV Show which is being broadcast January 27, 2010 gets broadcast in the United States. I think now I’ll try to buy a painting by an elephant, see below:
