Denver Broncos Traded Jake Plummer, Jay Cutler, Mike Shanahan for Josh McDaniels, Kyle Orton, 2 First Round & Third Round Draft Picks
When you think about how the Denver Broncos imploded, you have to understand that in its totality the Denver Broncos managed to “Trade” 2 Starting Quarterbacks: Jake Plummer and Jay Cutler, one Head Coach who won the Super Bowl twice Mike Shanahan, the 140th pick of the 2009 NFL draft and the 15th and 68th pick of the 2006 NFL draft, all for someone who hasn’t been a Head Coach in the NFL, one mediocre Chicago Bears Quarterback Kyle Orton, the 18th and 84th pick in the NFL 2009 Draft and a first round pick in 2010. The 2006 Draft choices were traded to get Jay Cutler in the first place.
The bottom line is these had to be the stupidest and most insane personnel moves since the Phoenix Suns owner decided to destroy his team. And I’m not even including the millions of dollars the Denver Bronocos are now paying Mike Shanahan not to coach. Denver Bronco fans have to be playing the what if game and wondering what if Denver never bothered to trade for Jake Cutler in the first place.
Jake Plummer would still be the quarterback, chances are the Broncos would have had a better winning record and made the playoffs, Mike Shanahan would still be the Head Coach, OK I guess you get the idea. Bottom line is, by trading a good to very good quarterback and not having a quarterback of equal ability replace him, the Denver Broncos panicked and imploded. They should have just told Jay Cutler you have a contract and live up to it or you’ll be suspended and not paid. But instead they bent over and played dead. How ’bout them Broncos?
