Doge 6 CD Player Review Incredible Sound with these Tweaks

Despite already owning a wonderful Jolida JD-100A CD Player, I’ve been obsessed with getting a Doge 6 Tube CD player from China based on a blog/review I read online by Vic Troila in which he basically said that the Doge 6 was the greatest thing since sliced bread for the money as the audio sound actually moves to the sides of speakers! As a new Doge 6 CD Player costs around $1546 and a Doge 6 CD player with upgraded tubes replacing the stock tubes costs $1746, it took me a while to save up and then pull the trigger to buy one, especially since outside of Vic Troila’s blog I didn’t find any other reviews of the Doge 6 online perhaps because the Doge 6 is a Tube CD player exported from China, so I was taking an incredible leap of faith. Actually not a total leap of faith as I purchased my Doge 6 from Pacific Valve in the United States which offers a 30 day guarantee. Here is my review of the Doge 6 CD Player which when coupled with the following tweaks produced the best audio sound I’ve ever heard from a CD player! The review follows the Doge 6 Technical Background below:
Doge 6 Technical Background Description Before my Review Quoted from Pacific Valve Web Site:
“Unlike the more typical cathode follower output stage found in many vacuum tube CD players, the DOGE 6 features 6 output tubes (4 X 12AX7,2 X 12AT7) in an SRPP (Shunt Regulated Push Pull) design that is the same circuit design found in amps and CD players costing around $5000. There are not any semiconductors used in the circuit for rectification of the signal. The signal is fed directly from the converters into the tube preamp.
The Doge’s 6 superior design makes its way to the digital domain with the use of a Crystal Delta Sigma converter with incredible dynamic range and 24-bit resolution. The output from Delta Sigma is delivered to a unique SRPP circuit design and tightly regulated by 6 independent power supplies. Only finest 10 double- layer, polypropylene-coupling capacitors, selected to 0,2 % tolerance are used in signal path. This innovative approach culminates in a new standard for CD performance and a new balance of power in digital design.
The Doge 6’s simple and elegant engineering approach is without peer. A proprietary servo-board synchronizes the Phillips transport mechanism to a single master clock while the Doge 6’s single box design eliminates interface induced jitter.”

Doge 6 CD Player Review with Tweaks
I bought my Doge 6 CD Player with Tube upgrades from Pacific Valve for $1746. They replaced the Doge 6 Stock Tubes which seems to be recommended to get the incredible detailed Doge 6 sound, with 4 Tung Sol 12AX7s and 2 Sylvania 12AT7 Tubes Installed (They were being generous as they normally upgrade with 2 JAN 12AT7 tubes instead of the Sylvania which is a more expensive tube).
The Doge 6 CD Player arrived excellently and securely packed, triple boxed! I immediately and here is where the other tweaks come in, connected the Doge 6 CD player through my Musical Fidelity X10V3 tube buffer using Neutral Acoustic Research AP-031 Cables (2 pairs) that you can get cheap for $15 a pair at Best Buy and a $225 Audio Horizons Harmony Power Cord sold by Audio Horizons. I had previously written a blog about the Musical Fidelity X10V3 Tube Buffer and other tweaks at this link and a blog about the Audio Harmony Power Cord at this link. I found for myself that the inexpensive Acoustic Research AP-031 Cables give me the best Neutral sound connection by trial and error years ago.
I listen mainly to 60/70′s remastered blues rock and classic rock CDs and the first CD I played and listened to on the Doge 6 CD Player with the Tube Upgrade via the Musical Fidelity X-10V3 Tube Buffer and Audio Horizons Power Cord was a remastered John Mayall’s Blues Breakers “Crusade” featuring Mick Taylor on lead guitar. The sound with absolutely no break In time, was utterly amazing and knocked me out as I heard more detail and musical separation then I’ve ever heard in my life listening to a CD. It literally sounded like I was hearing a band playing live in the recording studio only it was my living room. All the instruments took on new life and it was almost like my ears found a new way to hear music. Whereas before CDs sounded great on my Jolida JD-100A (with the same tweaks as above but different tubes), the audio sound took up another dimension with the Doge 6. I played several other CDs and had the same experience and results. Out of curiosity, I also disconnected the Doge 6 from the Musical Fidelity X-10 V3 Tube Buffer and the Horizons Harmony Power Cord and connected the Doge 6 directly into my Receiver and used the Doge 6 Power Cord and for my ears there was a night and day difference in the sound and these tweaks made the Doge 6 sound incredible for me.
