Don’t take Preemptive Action at Work cause Payback is a Bitch
One of the hardest things I’ve learned in life is never take preemptive action at work against your boss or coworker because payback is a bitch. Payback is the one thing we aren’t taught in school. Maybe its like sex, we’re suppose to learn it in the streets! On TV making the first move against your boss or coworker before they can get you is shown to be cool and make the TV character seem so smart. TV is not reality and if you try to pull off preemptive moves against your boss or coworkers, chances are it will backfire and get you into the kind of trouble you can not get out of. You are best off doing nothing.
Here’s a perfect example that happened to me years ago at work. My supervisor who basically treated me OK but was a bit of a working fool for some reason got mad at me in his office because I couldn’t grasp what he wanted me to do on a project we were working on. For some bizarre reason he took it personally and the next thing I knew he lost his cool and seriously literally threw a book at me. He didn’t do this in a fun way, he tried to hurt me with it. It missed me and I didn’t say anything and he acted like he did nothing wrong, didn’t apologize and then continued to tell me that someone in my position should know how to do the project, blah, blah, blah. I should add I was the only one in his office and the door was closed. I told my best friend at work about what happened and she said I should report him to his supervisor because if I don’t he may take a preemptive move against me knowing he did something wrong, and basically try to get me fired for incompetence. I honestly did not know what to do. I figured if I reported him first in the long run he’d get payback and make my life miserable but if I did nothing and he made the initial move, I’d have no defense as my cries of “assault” would look like a desperate lie. Luckily I have a sister who gave me good advice and she said do nothing as it would blow over. Sure enough it did blow over and my supervisor never mentioned the incident again and I got decent appraisals from him and he never made trouble for me.
If you have a problem with a coworker and report him to his supervisor first all you will accomplish is having a target on your back from your coworker for as long as they’re with your company. The coworker will spread lies against you and basically do anything to undercut your reputation, true or not, as payback for having made trouble for them. You are better off no matter how right you are or how wrong your coworker is, to just keep your mouth shut and swallow any stupidity your coworker causes you. Yes you are a wimp by doing this but in the long term you are better off. A lawyer once told me that “Stupid people can hurt you”. Making an enemy of a coworker who probably has nothing else going on in their life will eventually catch up to you and your better off existing at work under the radar. That’s the real world unfortunately. You can always cast magic spells against them at home though! I once tried to make someone at work disappear by writing out their full name on a sheet of paper, writing it again with the last letter off and repeating the process till there were no letters left and then reciting all the spellings. This was suppose to make the person disappear. Unfortunately it didn’t work. Oh, well.
