Ebay Auction Bargains Can Still Be Found and Won- Here’s How!

Like many people I got fed up with Ebay years ago because the listed auction price and/or the winning auction price with shipping wasn’t for the most part significantly less then what you would pay in a retail store because of greedy sellers and stupid buyers. I’m convinced some people paid stupid prices no cheaper then they could have gotten retail because they like the feeling of winning something even if they really didn’t win anything in the big picture! I did use Ebay to purchase collectible and used items which I could not find easily elsewhere however. While it is the exception rather than the rule, it still is possible to find and win the occasional Bargain on Ebay and I’m going to tell you how. Before I go on, because of the Recession now is the time to buy things on Ebay because many sellers, even the greedy ones, are listing items at much lower prices and people are bidding less!

Conditions in Finding a Bargain on Ebay

Most of the following applies to collectible items like autographs, autographed art, deleted CDs and records and deleted electronic products and equipment but will apply to other items too. There are no free lunches and it will be very rare when someone posts a new item still in stores like for example a Blu-Ray Player sealed in a box as a Buy it Now Item for hypothetically $50 when it sells in the stores for $350 or you can win the auction for it for $50, so don’t count on that, you’re wasting your time and energy. Here are the conditions for finding and winning a Bargain on Ebay:

1. The closing time of an auction is between 12:00 AM and 4 PM Eastern Standard time during the week. On weekends between 12:00 AM and 7:00 AM. A lot of people are not awake or by a computer at that time which eliminates a lot of bidders who only bid in the last few minutes.

2. The Item is Misspelled on the title of the listing. For example someone spells DVD Player, DBD Player, etc. You might be able to still find the item with the words you put in your Ebay Search while many others won’t. So the bottom line is if someone lists a New DVD player say for $5 with free shipping and no one else sees the listing because of the spelling, you’ll win!

3. The Item is not Fully Listed in the Title. For example there are a lot of people who are looking for signed (autographed) art from R. Crumb of Keep on Truckin’ Fame. If the seller lists an R Crumb art item but fails to put it is signed on the title, there will be much less people interested in the item. Same with an autographed photo of an individual member of a rock group, for example Mitch Mitchell, the drummer of the Jimi Hendrix Experience. If an autographed photo of Mitch Mitchell is listed with Jimi Hendrix Experience not on the title, many people will miss out on this unless they were Mitch Mitchell fans to begin with. Most people in my opinion do not include the description in their Search because it brings up too many unrelated items or just are too lazy to do this.

4. The seller does not know enough about what the item is worth and lists it too low as a Buy It Now item or it is not described very well in the listing and therefore many people do not bid because of its poor description.

How to Win Your Ebay Bargain

1. If you see a Bargain and it is available at a Buy it Now Price, don’t delay, purchase it then and there. If you delay, someone else will get it.

2. If the Bargain is an auction not Buy It Now, do not Bid at all until the last 5 seconds of the auction, even if there are no bids at all. By placing the first bid anytime previous to the last 5 seconds of an auction even if no one has bid, you are telling potential bidders that they will have competition which you don’t want to do and alerting the Seller to put in a Scam bid under another screen name (or have a friend do that) so the initial bidder won’t get the item at too low a price.

3. As far as not bidding till the final 5 seconds, I’ve previously blogged that all anyone is doing putting in an Ebay bid before less than 10 seconds are left in an Ebay auction is just raising the purchase price, nothing else. It is very easy to set things up in such a way that you will have the final highest bid on Ebay which will be too late for anyone to top with 5 seconds or less.

Last week for example I was shocked that I found an autographed lithograph of an American Cartoonist legend that normally sells for $400- $1000, listed way too low and hardly anyone bid, and I got the item for $45 (My Bid was actually $150 but $45 was the winning Ebay bid). As I had less room to hang this up in my place then I thought, I listed it on Ebay as soon as it arrived as a Buy It Now Item for $300 and I made myself a nice easy profit of around $250 (yeah I could have listed it higher and possibly made more money but then again I might not have sold it at the higher price. 80% of something is worth more to me than 100% of nothing!).

To reiterate Bargains do show up occasionally on Ebay but mainly under the conditions I listed above and hopefully this article will help you find a Bargain for yourself.
