Emmy Award cinematographer John S. Priestley The Naked City Internet Disappearance Conspiracy – WTF!

I just discovered what appears to be a massive Internet Conspiracy in that there literally does not seem to be anything on the internet on Emmy Award cinematographer John S. Priestley of The Naked City both personally and professionally and all I can say is WTF! This makes no sense at all as how can someone of John S. Priestley’s stature just literally disappear online. Note this is the first of 2 Blogs I will be writing back to back on the Naked City and there may be some duplication in the second.
I am ashamed to admit that as a kid growing up in New York City in the early 1960′s I never watched “The Naked City” on TV and never bothered to watch it at all till yesterday when out of curiosity I rented the first set of Naked City DVDs and was absolutely shocked how incredible it was, especially the absolutely breathtaking cinematography. I should mention that I rarely notice cinematography but it is absolutely spellbinding in the Naked City and has a life of its own. I feel like I’m literally time traveling and relieving my childhood with the shots of New York City in motion in the 1960′s. The DVD visual and sound quality of the Naked City is fantastically pristine.
Back to the Internet Conspiracy. Right after I watched the first two episodes of the Naked City DVD, I went to IMDB as I wanted to know who the cinematographer was and if he won any Emmys for his incredible cinematography. I found out that John S. Priestley was the amazing Naked City cinematographer and he did indeed win an Emmy award in cinematography both in 1962 and 1963 but oddly wasn’t nominated earlier. Incredibly though his credits for TV and movie work are for only 1960-1963 and then nothing. There is nothing posted on him in the IMDB Message Board (I can just see one of you rushing there to post “First”) and incredibly Nada on him in Wikipedia. I could find no pictures of John S. Sterling online and literally no real mention on him anywhere. I don’t know if he’s dead, how old he is, where he was born, what happened to him, nothing. All of which makes no sense. It’s as if there is a conspiracy to erase the existence of John S. Priestley. Did he capture Aliens on film or something? I just discovered a book on The Naked City which I ordered and am hoping there is some more information on John S. Sterling there. If you think I’m being nuts and obsessing, just watch The Naked City on DVD and then you’ll see why I’ve gone bonkers about what happened to John S. Priestley.
