The Good news is the possible End of the World has been Postponed due to a malfunctioning of a 30-ton transformer that cools the world’s largest particle collider,forcing physicists to stop using the atom smasher just a day after launching it to great fanfare, the European Organization for Nuclear Research said Thursday. Why this wasn’t announced immediately I don’t understand why, perhaps out of deference to September 11. The bad news is, if something on the experiment malfunctioned, what’s to prevent another malfunctioning or screw up by these scientists from causing the end of the world? Be afraid, be very afraid!
