Female Olympic Athletes of 2004 vs Male Olympic Athletes of 1904 Would Beat the Men 2/3 of the Time

Update Before You Read this. I made an idiotic screwup when I wrote this that someone pointed out to me later in that I failed to consider 2004 running shoes versus 1904 running shoes. My error, sorry. So please keep this in perspective when reading this. I didn’t delete this because it would have caused some indexing problems and so I’m still running this as written starting here. Apologies again.

We always hear how over time athletes have gotten bigger, stronger and faster. Well out of curiosity, I found a website where I could find the Gold, Silver and Bronze Winner of each of the Olympics, plus the results of each Male and Female Athlete from 1896-2004 for each Olympic Event. From these results, I decided to stage a Hypothetical Olympics featuring the Recorded Results of the 2004 Female Olympic Athletes against the 1904 Male Olympic Athletes in the exact same event, no differences whatsoever, and see who would win based on their recorded historical times. I did my best to determine which events were exactly the same so I’m not comparing Apples with Oranges. If you see any discrepancies I missed, I’d appreciate if you would notify me and I’ll revise this as required. Note, this is totally unscientific as Olympic Athletes in 2004 for the most part don’t have to do anything but train while the 1904 Olympic Athletes had to work full-time to support themselves and train on the side. I will be adding 1920’s 1930’s and 40’s Men’s Olympic versus 2004 Female Olympic Results this entire weekend so please check back periodically with this Blog.

Of the 8 events that I’ve assumed were identical for the Male and Female Olympic Athletes: 100m run, 200m run, 400m run, 800m run,1500m run, 400m Hurdles, High Jump and Long Jump, Women would have won the gold medal and beaten the men in 4 of the 8 events. All told, 16 of the 23 Gold, Silver and Bronze Medals Awarded (there was no silver in one event listed) would have been Won by Women outnumbering the men 16-7. In 3 events, the 100m run, 1500m run and the High Jump, Women would have come in First, Second and Third before the Men.

Here are the results and times for the Gold, Metal and Bronze for each event by best times or distances. Note The 2004 Female Athletes are in Bold:

  1. [...] This is the second part of my series comparing Olympic Results on the exact same events between the 2004 Female Olympic Athletes and Male Olympic Athletes of different times. The first part compared the 2004 Females against the 1904 Male Olympians and the historical results were quite startling and totally different from the results in Part 2 using the 1924 Chariots of Fire Olympic Men. If you haven’t read Part 1 yet, I’d recommend you read that first by clicking here. [...]
