Free DVD Harvard Beats Yale 29-29 Magic Atmosphere Best Documentary

I just watched a free DVD “Harvard Beats Yale 29-29″ online on Netflix that was easily the best and most captivating documentary I’ve ever seen. “Harvard Beats Yale 29-29″ is the definition of pure magic atmosphere and Ive never been engrossed more in a film. I’m giving Netflix a free unsolicited plug here as you can watch it free online on Netflix.

I was just a kid when they played this legendary game and while I was aware of the score and the general circumstances, the game did not mean that much to me at the time because of my age. Seeing “Harvard Beats Yale 29-29″ now as an adult was almost as thrilling as some of the great live football games I’ve seen even though I already knew the score and outcome. Kevin Rafferty incredibly is the Director, Producer, Editor and Cinematographer and all I can say is Bravo and he deserved to win an Academy Award for this masterpiece.

Harvard Beats Yale 29-29, marvelously intersperses a lot of the actual football game footage in chronological running time with comments by the key players on camera including Actor Timmy Lee Jones who played for Harvard in the game, a Yale player who dated actress Meryl Streep at the time and legendary Yale Quarterback Brian Dowling who the Doonesbury character B.D. is modeled after. Brian Dowling plays like Vince Young did against USC in the game and if you are watching this DVD online, at the 51 second mark he makes one of the greatest football fakes I’ve ever seen. The editing is flawless but what really makes the movie is the somewhat grainy color video of the game which sets the incredible atmosphere of the November 23, 1968 football game at Harvard. If the footage had been in HD in my opinion this documentary wouldn’t work because the grainy 1968 footage captures the atmosphere completely as do the original announcers actual play by play. Announcers today sound like they are on PCP compared to the 1968 announcers and I prefer the 1968 announcers better!

Most of the players who comment on the games action on film (some throughout the game) come off as very insightful and good people commenting on a game they played 40 years ago. Tommy Lee Jones who I love as an actor comes off incredibly dull with no sense of humor or signs of life. Another player, Mike Bouscaren who roomed with George W. Bush at Yale and is still a friend today comes off as a “Fortunate Son” schmuck like George W. Bush. To his credit he’s consistent without apologizing for himself and admited he tried to injure Harvard players to get them out of the game! What an Asshole! Surprisingly enough, Yale star football player Calvin Hill who later starred in the NFL and is the father of the NBA’s Calvin Hill, for some reason doesn’t appear in the Documentary except for the game action. One of the players on camera we sadly find out in his last scene in the Documentary died unexpectedly in 2007 before the Documentary was released.

I was absolutely enthralled by Harvard Beats Yale 29-29 and as I said you can watch it for free on Netflix. Please check out our large Online Discount Gift Store Click Here and our other Online Discount Stores below which helps support this politically incorrect blog. Thank you.
