To anyone reading this Blog, you’ll know I consider the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame an absolute joke though I have to admit I thought the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Museum was really great and I’d recommend it to anyone and it’s even worth making a separate trip to Cleveland to see. If the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame was simply called the Music Hall of Fame I’d have no problems with such rockers as “Great Balls of Fire” Leonard Cohen, Madonna and the like who are to rock what Jeffrey Dahmer is to proper nutrition, being members. But its called the Rock Hall of Fame, and where the F is Free and their great individual members Paul Rodgers (vocals), Paul Kossoff (guitar), Andy Fraser (bass) and Simon Kirke (drums).

Both Free the group and at least 3 of its individual members: Paul Rodgers, Paul Kossoff, and Andy Fraser should have been inducted into the Rock Hall of Fame years ago. Free was probably one of the 10 best innovative rock bands ever and Paul Rodgers one of rock’s great vocalists, Paul Kossoff one of rocks greatest original guitarists and Andy Fraser the greatest bass player ever and easily the most unsung musician of all time, playing bass like a pumping lead instrument yet flowing beautifully with Paul Kossoff’s emotional ripping lead guitar. I consider Simon Kirke an excellent drummer but not quite on the same level of the other 3 in terms of pure greatness.

Free had so many masterpieces, they’re too many to list. Besides buying all of Free’s CD’s, I’d recommend the excellent remastered 2 CD set, Chronicles. The people in charge of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame nominations ought to be ashamed of themselves for Free and its individual members not being inducted. But thank God, Leonard Cohen was, lol!
