I Prefer CDS to Records Yet Have An Online Vinyl Records Store
I grew up in the late 60′s and 70′s in the era of vinyl records. There were no CDs or MP3′s and I had a few thousand vinyl record albums and singles which I proceeded to unintentionally scratch and mangle which is one reason I hate vinyl records. Having said that I just opened up an Online Record Store, www.VinylRecordsandHomeAudio.com, selling discount records, CDs, record players, CD players, speakers and Home Audio and Home Theater Systems. I recognize that there are many people who still love vinyl especially for the sound and I thought there is enough of a market for Vinyl Records to open up an Online Record Store despite my personal preference to CDs for reasons other than audio sound.
My biggest problem growing up with records which ultimately caused me to unintentionally scratch and mangle my records was that there would usually be one or two tracks on an album I didn’t want to hear or tracks I wanted to hear over and over again and the only way to do that was picking up the record needle and putting it on the right track. While I got to be really good at putting the needle at the beginning of the track I wanted to hear, every time I lifted the record needle up and put it down on a record track, the record would get damaged. The end result was, that when CD’s came about and I spent a fortune buying CDs replacing my records, I couldn’t sell my records as they were too damaged.
Another problem I had with records was that I lost interest in many groups because I had to constantly pick up the record needle to skip a track and basically lost the groove and feel of the music. I can’t tell you how many times I got up and took the record needle off The Beatles “Love You Too” and “Within You Without You”, nothing personal George Harrison fans. With CD’s obviously I can just skip a track by pushing a button on my remote and not lose the groove and feel of an album which has helped me rediscover groups and albums that I wasn’t interested in the vinyl record era. A perfect example of this is a Pub Rock Group called Ducks Deluxe who’s albums I was a bit disappointed in the 1970′s but on CD they sound great as I don’t have to pick up a record needle or get up and turn the record over to play which was another mood changer for me.
I’m actually happy with the sound of my classic rock and blues CD’s on my system as most of them have been remastered for CD and sound so much better than when CDs first came out 25 or so years ago. As I said, a lot of vinyl record fans swear by the sound of vinyl and think its far superior. I actually heard a bunch of records on a great vinyl record system by a collector who really took care of his records- no scratches, fingerprints, nothing and I have to admit that his records sounded really incredible. All I can say is if you can take care of your albums, don’t mind listening to an album all the way through and don’t mind getting up and changing the side of a record, vinyl might be for you. For a mangler like me who’s totally impatient, I prefer CD.
