If Obama or McCain Used Profanity in a Presidential Debate Would You Vote for Them?
Does anyone remember Michael Dukakis 1988 Presidential debate with George Bush when the moderator Bernard Shaw “ambushed him” for the first question of the night and asked “Governor, if Kitty Dukakis were raped and murdered, would you favor an irrevocable death penalty for the killer?” Well, Dukakis’s answer whatever it was, I’m sure lost a lot of people’s votes as he answered it like someone asked him what he thinks of the Economy. If that had been me, I would have cursed Bernard Shaw out live on National TV with an audience of millions. All of which got me thinking, would there be an effect on the outcome of this years election if Barack Obama or John McCain says BS or FU in clear spelled out terms during the debate, either at each other or the moderator or in response to the question?
My sister says, that she’d vote automatically for the candidate that swore! I’m not sure about the majority of the public. I could see them saying that as a result of the candidate swearing they’ve shown that they’re not presidential enough or they have no self restraint. On the other hand, a lot of people would say they’re honest and give straight answers instead of rehearsed “Stepford Wives” behavior.
Personally, I think if Dukakis had said “FU, I’m not going to respond to that” he would have gained a lot more votes and people would have respected him. On the other hand, if Obama or McCain is asked a legitimate question and one of them responded by saying “FU” or “BS”, I would never vote for the one who did, no matter what. However, if one of them rebuts the others answer which clearly was a lie or distortion, and they said BS, I’d probably vote for them, if they were correct. An “FU” would not be acceptable to me though. What do you think? Actually, I’d like to see this scenario played out on “South Park” with my man, Cartman, either the debate Moderator or one of the Presidential Candidates. I think Cartman would be a better president then either of them!
