It’s Complicated: Questioning Techniques Combating Ambiguous Catch Phrase Answers
One of the things I hate most in life is when people treat you like an absolute idiot by giving you ambiguous catch phrase answers that they’ve heard on TV like “It’s Complicated”, “You Don’t Know Me”, “You’re Awesome/Amazing but” as well as double talk on why they haven’t given you the money they owe you and expect you to accept their BS. Well, if you’re tired of being a patsy, here’s some questioning techniques on how to call them out on this and if nothing else, make them squirm and make them feel totally uncomfortable.
It’s complicated
I have never hated a two word phrase as much as this one. You hear it every day on TV and in real life because these idiots think its cool and you’re just suppose to back off and not press them further. Well as they said in the cancelled TV Show “Jericho”, nuts! To me there’s no bigger insult when you ask a person a question and they won’t give you an answer and say “It’s complicated”. Believe you me anyone saying that to you is not a friend, lover or anyone you can trust and what you need to do is carry a small memo pad in your pocket with a pen and as soon as they say “it’s complicated” whip out the note pad and pen in front of them and say “well write it all down then”. Their reaction will be priceless. Don’t worry about burning bridges as these people are not worth having any kind of relationship with. Best of all, they won’t forget this for the rest of their lives and you will have left a permanent impression on them.
Your Awesome/Amazing, but
This is usually the BS that women give when turning down a man especially on Reality TV Shows. What you need to combat this BS answer and insult to your intelligence is to say immediately “if I’m so awesome or amazing then why aren’t you saying yes? I need to know why if I’m so awesome or amazing you won’t say yes.” Whatever answer they stammer out repeat “if I’m so awesome or amazing then why aren’t you saying yes? I need to know why if I’m so awesome or amazing you won’t say yes” again and again each time she answers.
You Don’t Know Me
When you get the admonishing “You Don’t Know Me”- like who thinks they’re worth knowing in the first place just say “I’m not a social worker. Here’s a pen and a pad, write down what I don’t know” and whip out the memo pad and pen mentioned in the “It’s complicated section”.
Where’s My Money Doubletalk
Any time someone owes you money and gives you double talk explanations and tell you the check is in the mail, etc., just tell them that you are going to go to their place of employment within the next day or two and expect you to hand them what they owe you in cash or you will be creating an embarrassing scene for their employer, boss and co-workers to see or hear. No checks, just cash only.
