It was recently announced that new Touch DNA evidence was found on JonBenet Ramsey. As someone not in Law Enforcement I have several questions about what is being done/not being done with the DNA as some things don’t make any sense to me in regards to using this to solve the murder. Frankly it almost sounds like OJ Simpson’s vow to “find the real killers”.
First off, why bother to reveal the new DNA evidence in the first place as this alerts her killer(s) not to be arrested for anything that will result in their DNA being taken? I realize this new DNA cleared the Ramsey family publicly from being involved but wouldn’t not letting the public know about it make it easier to catch the killer? I mean if you were the killer wouldn’t you resist arrest at any cost for a crime now knowing your DNA will reveal you as the killer?
Secondly, why isn’t Law Enforcement or even the press for a sure way to get the Pulitzer Prize, gathering up DNA evidence on previous suspects whose DNA is not in the system and doing DNA testing with that DNA? I admit maybe they are doing that and we are not aware of their DNA analysis. As for the Press, I’m guessing they could give their DNA evidence collected (stuff from coffee cups, garbage, etc., to the police. I’m sure that there would be some legal issues if there was a match but they could resolve that.
Finally, why isn’t the body of a suspect named Michael Helgoth who committed suicide in 1997 2 days after Alex Hunter, then Boulder district attorney, made a public announcement stating “I want to say something to the person or persons that took this baby from us. The list of suspects narrows. Soon, there will be no one on the list but you”, being exhumed and tested against this new DNA evidence?
If anyone has any corrections, updates or clarifications on any of this please let this blog know in straight English without any obscenities, name calling or technical minutiae gobble gook. I continue to be amazed as to why this crime has not been solved as it wasn’t committed by some criminal mastermind.
