Law and Order SVU Promotes Police Harassment of Rape Victims

Elliot Stabler and the Law and Order SVU TV series, achieved a new low in the history of the Law and Order TV Franchise and the history of TV in its latest episode, “Smut”, with the advocation of it being okay for Stabler and the Police to harass a rape victim and her husband. Apparently, collateral damage is OK for the Law and Order Detectives if it results in the arrest and the conviction of a serial rapist.

What happened in this Law and Order episode is beyond contempt for a TV series and the Elliot Stabler character who should have been kicked off the police force 5 or more seasons ago. The Stabler character is one of the most vile supposed good guys ever and in my opinion is worse then the creeps he puts away because he knows better and still abuses his position not caring if he hurts innocent people in the process. He makes the Shield’s Vic Mackey look like a nice guy in comparison. Anyway this episode involved a woman who was drugged with Scopolamine, also known as levo-duboisine and hyoscine, which somehow renders a woman sexually compliant against her will but not comatose and makes them forget that they were even raped. Well to make his case against the same rapist for a different rape, Stabler decides even though the woman has forgotten what happened-she already had told Stabler and his partner Olivia Benson to get out, to show her and her husband who also had no knowledge of the rape, pictures and a video the Police obtained of the rape off the Internet. So what to Stabler if this is forever going to cause emotionally harm to the woman and her husband, that’s their problem they’ll get over it seems to be his attitude, he has to get this rapist off the street and if a rape victim is collateral damage in the process, well that’s the price of justice. Wrong. If that happened in real life, Stabler would get booted off the Police Force in no time and the woman and her family would win a multi million dollar lawsuit against the Police.

This being Law and Order SVU, of course something gets screwed up in the trial where a video of the woman’s rape is shown in Court with her there, and a Mistrial is declared. Then Benson and Stabler somehow discover a video of the rapist raping his fiancee 2 years ago and she agrees to testify against him. Of course in real life her testimony would be worthless as she didn’t file charges 2 years ago and there is no proof it wasn’t consensual however horrible that sounds but in the idiot world of LAw and Order SVU reality doesn’t count.

I’m not a politically correct person as anyone who reads this blog knows but NBC needs to seriously oversee the garbage Law and Order SVU puts out before it hits the air. This episode was a disgrace and an insult to rape victims.
