Life on Mars TV Before Life on Mars There was Nowhere Man on UPN
I’m fascinated by how many British people seem to love their BBC TV Series “Life on Mars” but seem to despise the American ABC “Life on Mars” version claiming that we have no right to “copy it”, etc., etc., yada, yada, yada. The thing is before the BBC “Life on Mars” came about there was a great American TV series on the then UPN Network called “Nowhere Man” in 1995 starring Bruce Greenwood where some of the story elements concerning Sam Tyler the main character on “Life on Mars” were in “Nowhere Man”.
In Nowhere Man a photographer named Thomas Veil (Bruce Greenwood, I, Robot) suddenly without warning finds that no one knows he exists. To quote the Nowhere Man Complete DVD Set “Every aspect of his life is erased during the course of one evening. His wife acts as if he’s a stranger, his credit cards are suddenly invalid, his keys no longer fit the door to his home and in one way or another, his family and friends don’t know him. Completely alone, Veil sets out on a desperate cross-country quest for an answer while eluding his powerful and unknown enemy. His only clue to the possible motivation behind the harrowing ordeal is the disappearance of one of his photographs, “Hidden Agenda,” which depicts the execution of natives in a war-torn Third World country.”
Every time we seem to be guessing what has happened to him we run into red herrings and basically nothing is what it seems yet how can this all be as nothing adds up.
I don’t want to say more as I don’t want to spoil the amazing ending. This series only lasted a year which was a shame but at least to the UPN’s credit, it had a full non-rushed or tacked on excellent conclusion.
