Lowering Your Dental Costs

Here are some tips that you might want to consider that may help you lower your Dental Costs that worked for me, albeit by trial and error:

1. Get a Braun Oral B Triumph Electric tooth brush with floss action brush heads. Somehow for the first time ever in my life, I actually got rid of my plaque and now the Dentist is not having me go to a gum specialist to have work done on them.

2. Ask your dentist to order for you if he does not have in stock, Pro-Den RX Oral Rinse (Chlorhexidine Gluconate .12%). This also helps your gums and gets rid of Plaque. This is not an Over the Counter Mouth Rinse and I’m not sure you can get it by prescription, it has to be ordered and stocked by your dentist if that makes any sense.

3. Make sure your Dentist’s going rate is comparable to that of other dentists. I moved to a new city years ago and out of total ignorance was charged about twice the normal rate to have a bridge done because I didn’t know any better.

4. Many dentists will try to sell you on services that you don’t really need and make it sound like its life and death. They do this to make money not out of concern for you. Don’t jump at everything a dentist tells you that you need unless you really know the dentist and absolutely trust him. One thing you should do right away, even if its a total lie, is tell a dentist your funds are limited so they’ll quit trying to sell you on unnecessary work. This one dentist I had insisted I needed to get a crown replaced when I told him a tooth was bothering me. I had no desire to spend $650 with insurance to replace a crown they put in 2 years ago and sure enough the tooth stopped bothering me within a week and I saved $650 and a lot of inconvenience.

5. Buy dental insurance. I have to tell you though that when you add up my monthly payments I really haven’t saved that much but at least it prevents you from putting up a huge payment all at once for services that you really need, if you don’t have dental insurance.

I’m not saying that all dentists are crooks, there are some very good and honest ones but isn’t it always kind of funny that when a Dentist says that you need $12,000 worth of dental work right away and you ask them if you can pay them later, they’ll all go “Ugh, ugh, ugh”!
