Manny Ramirez is a Financial Genius – Pro Athletes Take Heed!
I stopped following baseball 30 years ago and only know about 25 players names but the one player’s name I can’t forget is Manny Ramirez ex- Boston Red Sox Star and current Los Angeles Dodgers for possibly all of 3 months. The perception about Ramirez outside of Boston is he’s an idiot and a jerk and a great baseball player but in my mind should be considered a financial genius and the Patron Saint of every pro athlete.
Ramirez you see had a $1,000,000 relocation clause put in his contract which would be payable to him if he got traded to another team. Well Manny forced the Boston Red Sox to trade him as they could no longer tolerate his actions and for relocating to Los Angeles for all of 3 months to play for the Los Angeles Dodgers, Manny is being paid one million dollars as a relocation fee. All of which reminds me when Moses Malone signed with the ABA, people questioned his intelligence and Moses supposedly replied something like “Well, I’m smart enough to sign my million dollar checks”.
