Stephen King Marvel Comics The Stand is Fantastic Should Be Taught in School
I know this is heresy to say but I’ve never been a fan of Stephen King books though I have enjoyed some Stephen King movies and TV adaptions, particularly the 1979 TV miniseries of “Salem’s Lot” and “Maximum Overdrive”. I’ve just had difficulty, for whatever the reason, in reading his books. All of which leads me to the Marvel Comics adaption of “The Stand” which is totally fantastic and should be used in High School as prime reading material.
As far as I can tell, the Marvel Comics version of “The Stand” is a totally faithful adaption of the novel with I think more of a backstory (I possibly could be mistaken as I last read the book years ago) and it is so much more easier and enjoyable reading this wonderful Marvel Comics “The Stand” with its superb art, style and direction. In fact its almost like reading a book version of a movie with all the right edits and direction as the characters and storyline seem more alive then say reading a straight written book only if that makes any sense. It’s like color and depth have been added to the story without sacrificing literary quality.
I know when I was a kid 40 years ago comic books were looked down by parents and educators but today the literary quality is so good that I don’t know why parents and educators don’t use comic books to increase reading comprehension skills and ability.
I’d recommend the Marvel Comic books series of “The Stand” to people who have never read the Stephen King novel as well as people who’ve read the book as its simply superb and as I said helps bring the story to life. Bravo, Marvel Comics and Stephen King who is also the Creative and Executive Director of The Stand comics. PS Even if you’ve seen the TV Miniseries, I’d recommend you still read the comic book series.
