I’ve been a fan of the NFL and Pro Football for 40 years and for some reason it didn’t hit me till now about one of the stupidest plays in Pro Football that has gone on forever: The Quarterback calling a time out before the two minute warning is approaching because something is messed up. For all the NFL Head Coaches who try to make football rocket science there simply is no intelligent reason for them to permit their quarterback to take a time out before the 2 minute warning is approaching. OK, you’re saying what is a quarterback suppose to do, risk a fumble or interception if something is messed up? No, just have the quarterback take a knee (or a safe variance) and lose a few yards and a down. It’s so easy and teams don’t think of this. Bottom line, wouldn’t you rather trade a loss of a down and a few yards in the course of a game if it gets you an extra time out or prevents you from losing a time out?
