Panasonic DMP-BD55 Blu-Ray Player Analog Connection Set Up The Quick Way

Denon 3801 Back Analog Cables Go & Panasonic DMP-BD55 Analog Outputs

I just bought the Panasonic DMP-BD55 Blu-Ray Player which I love but as my 7.1 Receiver did not have an HDMI connection, I had to use an Analog Connection to get the best sound, True HD. It was a bit confusing how to do this and what settings to use, so I called up Panasonic who was very helpful. Here is my Unofficial Shortcut on How to Set Up an Analog connection from your Panasonic DMP-BD55 Blu-Ray Player to your receiver quickly. Feel free to use. This Blog is not connected with Panasonic in any way.

How I Set Up my Panasonic DMP-BD55 Blu-Ray Player for An Analog Connection to My Denon 3801 Receiver to Get True HD Audio

To begin with, I’m assuming your Receiver Does not Have an HDMI connection and that you are connecting your Panasonic DMP-BD55 Blu-Ray Player to your HDTV by HDMI cable. If you are not connecting your Blu-Ray to your HDTV by HDMI, you need to do so now, as you are defeating the purpose of getting Blu-Ray. If your receiver has an HDMI connection then use the HDMI and stop reading this. OK, so I’m assuming anyone still reading has no HDMI connection on their Receiver and has connected their Blu-Ray Player direct to their TV by HDMI Cable for the Best Picture.

Follow these steps:

1. If you are going to listen via 5 speakers and a subwoofer Connect 6 analog cables from output labeled front left ,front right, surround left, surround right, center and subwoofer all under “Audio Out 5.1″ and into a bank of inputs on your receiver labeled external inputs or something similar that also has left and right front inputs, left and right surround inputs, center and subwoofer. These inputs will be vacant till you put the cables in. Note to get sound from your receiver if its a Denon Receiver, you need to press a button that says External In. I Set the Function on my Denon 3801 as CDR/Tape. If you have a receiver other than Denon, just look for the equivalents of what I’m describing. Remember if the External In Button is not pushed in, you won’t get the full sound from all the channels.

If you are going to listen via 7 speakers and a subwoofer, in addition to what you have above, use 2 more analog cables and connect them to left and right audio out channels labeled 2 Channel Surround and connect them to Surround Back Left and Surround Back Right under the External Input Back on the Denon Receiver or the Equivalent of your receiver. You will have a total of 4 rows of cables going from each other. Remember you must press the external input button down on your Denon Receiver to get full sound from all the channels.

2. Now Press the Set Up Button on Your Remote Control and Look at your HDTV’s Picture Screen (On my HDTV the picture input is HDMI)

Click Audio and set this up as follows:

Dynamic Range Compression Off
PCM Down Conversion Off
Downmix Surround Encoded
Then Click Return

Click TV/Device Connection You Will Be Under a Grouping Called Connection
then Click HDMI
Set HDMI Audio Output to OFF and then click return
Click Analog Audio Output Read this carefully:
(A). If you have a 5.1 Receiver Set this to 2 ch (Downmix)+ 5.1 ch
(B) If you have a 7.1 Receiver But are only using 5 Speakers & Sub set this to 2 ch (Downmix) +5.1 Ch
(C) If you have a 7.1 Receiver and are using 7 Speakers and a Sub set this to 7.1 ch
Bottom line is, only set it to 7.1 if you are actually using 7 speakers and a sub

That’s it as far as I know on the Audio Portion for the Best Possible Sound which is True HD. If you connect the audio digitally, you will not get True HD sound. Note that on the Denon Receiver because it as an analog connection, there will be no light on the receiver going off for Dolby Digital/DTS etc. The same is probably applicable for other Receivers True. Remember again to push the External Input Button Down to get sound from all your speakers and subwoofer.
