Quality 5.1/7.1 Home Theater System and Stereo Sound System You Can Afford

If any of you are trying to put together a great quality Home Theater System but just can’t afford the cost, well this I put together this one for you which you can obtain from different online sources at your option if you wish. It’s kind of how I put my system together. This is revised from an earlier blog post I wrote as I added an important accessory as well as a Blu-Ray Player and I may revise this blog post again in the future as I am always updating my equipment if I find an accessory that will improve my audio and/or video quality. If this can help you out, great. If not, maybe it will help guide you to what you’re looking for. This system is a combination of New and Used Equipment. I’ve left out used Video equipment such as DVD Recorders and HDTV’s. Used DVD Recorders never last and I’d never chance anything on a used HD TV. Here goes:

Panasonic DMP-BD55K Blu-ray Disc Player or Panasonic DMP-BD35K Blu-ray Disc Player

If you don’t mind spending the money, a Blu-Ray Disc Player is so much better than a DVD Player in terms of picture and sound it isn’t funny whether you’re watching a Blu-Ray DVD or a regular DVD. When I bought my DMP-BD55K Blu-ray Disc Player for the then bargain price of $350 I was in heaven as the picture and sound were better than if I were in a movie theater. Since then for some bizarre reason the price on the DMP-BD55K seems to have doubled but apparently the Panasonic DMP-BD80 seems to have replaced it at around $320. I bought the DMP-BD55K because my receiver did not have an HDMI input and the BD55K allows an analog audio connection which is just as good. If your receiver does have an HDMI input, the Panasonic DMP-BD35K Blu-ray Disc Player is cheaper. It has since been replaced by the under $300 Panasonic DMP-BD60. Note my Panasonic Blu-Ray BD 55K Player is not on the above photo. I’ve also listed in this Blog my Harmon Kardon 31 DVD Player which I had before I bought my Blu-Ray player.

Audio Horizons Harmony AC Power Cord

Believe it or not, this $225 specialized audio power cord has made a night and day difference in my CD audio sound. If you’re not an audiophile this isn’t necessary but if your the kind of person who appreciates the difference between the audio sound of a CD versus mp3 sound over your computer, this is one of the best tweaks I’ve ever gotten. I thought my CD sound (see below) was great but this cord makes it incredible and the CD Audio sound is more alive, three dimensional and like a performance not a recording. I just bought this for myself and I felt skeptical but it had a 10 day return policy and within 5 seconds I heard the difference. I was so impressed with this that I will be selling Audio Horizons Audio Equipment on my E-Stores in the future. Feel free to inquire at this Blog about purchasing Audio Horizons Power Cord.

7.1 Denon 3801 Receiver Used on Ebay for $125 – 200 Originally Retailed for $1100

I love this receiver. Excellent incredible sweet powerful 735 watt sound. CDs sound great listening on 5.1 natural channel stereo mode and DVDS and TV are terrific. Looks great too.

Optional Item Musical Fidelity X-10 V3 Tube Buffer $200 -250 Used on Ebay No longer Sold New Anywhere $400 Original Retail Price

This wonderful small item improves your CD sound 1000% and makes music come alive albeit with a regular solid state CD player or a tube CD player (yes it improves that sound too). It makes a night and day difference in your CD sound. At first I couldn’t believe how awesome it was. All the new ones sold out. I would just use basic Acoustic Research Performance Series Directional Cables with this which you can get at Best Buy cheap.

or Used Jolida JD-100A Tube CD Player Aprox $550 -$700 on Audiogon (look up online), $950 New

HDTV

There are so many Good Ones at Great Prices and I don’t know your size. Make sure you get a widescreen 1081 HDTV at least 32″. I love Panasonic and Mitsubishi and have a 34″ Panasonic HDTV and a 48″ Mitusubishi HDTV.Cable Read HDTV’s are cheaper than ones with built in tuners/receivers which you don’t need as your cable service gives you a free receiver anyway. You can probably get a good deal at Best Buy. I would recommend an extended warranty.

Harman Kardon DVD 31 $238 New Discounted from Discount 2009 HDTV Click Here $393 Retail Just a great DVD player!

Optional DVD Recorder Liteon DIVX DVD Recorder/Player,All Regions, LVW-1105HC $75 New On Ebay + $23 Shipping

I’ve always loved Liteon on as its Super easy to record by their guide super easy remote One warning most DVD recorders don’t last long so always power down when not using as you do not want the laser to wear down on any DVD recorder you buy

Miscellaneous

If you buy Orb’s Mod 1 Speakers, I recommend you buy wiring from them as well. They may even give you some free. I recommend for a subwoofer Cable you get Monster Cable’s standard THX subwoofer cable for around $30. I also recommend you get Monster Cable’s Standard THX Cables for both your HDTV and your DVD player. They are about $85 each but you can get them used on Ebay. Also get 2 Optic Cables that are good quality on Ebay for about $10-$25 each new, if you can find them used on Ebay you’ll save, for both a DVR if you use on and your DVD player. If you’ve never hooked up a Home Theater System before, I’d have a friend with experience help you out.
