Quarantine Great Horror Movie Eli Roth Cabin Fever Meets Das Boat
I just saw one of the best and totally underrated Horror movies on DVD, “Quarantine”, that I recommend to any fan of Director Eli Roth “Cabin Fever”. Imagine “Cabin Fever” with less humor Meets “Das Boat” meets “The Blair Witch Project Done Well not Crap” and you have “Quarantine”. I thought the acting by a little known cast was incredible and John Erick Dowdle did one of the best directing jobs I’ve seen in years (he also wrote the screenplay).
I don’t understand why this movie didn’t get higher acclaim and profile and seems to be disliked by a bunch of people on IMDB, even though it made like $40 million on a $14 million dollar budget. To me its a classic modern horror movie at its best. The photography was incredible as well. The movie starts off almost like a version of “Rescue Me” as a woman and her Cameraman are doing a story on a Los Angeles Fire Station and basically gets freakier and freakier as it evolves into total horror as the police, firemen, the TV news woman and camerman are quarantined in a building they’ve responded to along with the inhabitants of the building by the Government and the Center for Disease Control (CDC) as some of the people in the building have been infected by SuperRabies! What happens next is pure helter skelter all captured superbly by the Cameraman in real time.
I definitely recommend “Quarantine” on DVD to anyone who is a fan of Eli Roth- imagine Eli Roth on PCP without his humor and you have “Quarantine”. I am also going to be renting any movies directed by John Erick Dowdle as this movie was terrific if you hate Hollywood endings.
