Soul Men Samuel Jackson Very Funny Underrated Comedy For All Races
Just saw a very funny extremely underrated comedy “Soul Men” starring Samuel Jackson and Bernie Mac on DVD that you might want to rent this Holiday Weekend. I can’t believe this movie was a Box Office Failure. “Soul Men” is very funny whatever your race is. I know I’m not suppose to say this but different races do have different senses of humor on certain things but for me the humor in “Soul Men” was universal. I thought “Soul Men” was an extremely well made, very funny movie with excellent acting and a great supporting cast as well as great directing and great mainly Stax music and honest, non-politically correct language. “Soul Men” also did a great job in acknowledging Bernie Mac and Issac Hayes deaths in a graceful non-tear jerking manner.
I’m assuming “Soul Men” is loosely based on “Sam and Dave”, one of my favorite Stax acts and Bernie Mac and Samuel Jackson kept it real. Samuel Jackson surprised me with his comedic timing. “Soul Men” is about 2 former members of a star trio, Marcus Hooks and the Real Deal, who’s lead singer, played by Johnny Legend has just died. The duo reunite despite their many differences, Bernie Mac to be in the Spotlight again and Samuel Jackson cause he needs the money. They take a road trip to NY to be one of the featured acts at a show at the Apollo honoring their former lead singer. Bernie Mac is financially well off but angry and Samuel Jackson is a poor ex-con who just wants money. They hilariously bicker back and forth throughout the movie and their sex escapades with two white women is one of the funniest scenes I’ve seen since “Porky’s” peephole. If you’re looking to rent a good, funny comedy, I think you’ll enjoy “Soul Men”.
