Stargate Universe Most Gritty Science Fiction TV Series Ever!

I just finished watching the third (4th) episode of the Syfy Channel’s (I still can’t get over what a stupid name change this is from SciFi) new show, Stargate Universe and I’m falling in love with it. Initially I was a bit disappointed but this show has grown on me as it is definitely the most Gritty Science Fiction TV Series I’ve ever seen. I honestly was expecting a bit of a clone of “Star Trek Voyager” which I really liked and it took me till now to realize Stargate Universe isn’t Star Trek Voyager!
What’s really innovative for me is that a lot of the characters truly don’t like each other and the acting is so good, it looks like the actors don’t like each other either! None of this comes across as forced but natural. The main lead, Dr. Nicholas Rush played incredibly by Robert Carlyle, has to be one of the biggest asshole Scientists I’ve seen on this type of science fiction show. He’s a nasty piece of work- imagine Dr. Rodney McKay of Stargate Atlantis with no personality and a totally stark dark personality. He’s certainly not the warm cuddly Scientific Leader we all come to expect on this type of science fiction series.
Right now the cast of Stargate Universe is just trying to survive in the stark, dark confines of an ancient space ship and between the characters and their surroundings this is true grit! The video below will clue you in on what I’m talking about if you haven’t seen Stargate Universe yet:
One of the most innovative devices Stargate Universe has employed is that somehow with ancient technology, the crew who are lost beyond deep space, can transport their minds to Earth in another person’s body and vice versa and this way they are able to keep in touch toa degree with Stargate Command and their loved ones. I don’t want to give away anything more and spoil the experience of watching Stargate Universe for you but I’d definitely recommend watching it if you want to experience a gritty science fiction TV series.
