Sutherland Brothers and Quiver Best Of Tim Renwick Great Guitar

For any of you people who hate emo rock, I recommend one of the great forgotten melodic rock groups of the 70′s, the Sutherland Brothers and Quiver featuring the incredible Tim Renwick on guitar. Specifically, The Very Best of the Sutherland Brothers and Quiver CD on Columbia Records, which is a great way to start a taste. Before I go on, here’s a video of The Sutherland Brothers and Quiver performing one of their best numbers, “The Arms of Mary” Click Here

The Sutherland Brothers and Quiver is what Rock Music used to be about: Great original songs written by the brothers Ian and Gavin Sutherland with great musicianship lead by the incredible Tim Renwick on lead guitar- still a valuable musician today, he’s been in Eric Clapton’s band and Pink Floyd’s live band amongst others, the late great Peter Wood on keyboards (he co-wrote “Year of the Cat” with Al Stewart) and Willie Wilson on drums as well as great singing. This is what basic rock used to sound like with just guitars, bass, drums and keyboards, not 1000 overdubbed horns, synths, female backing vocalists, etc. and it works a million times better because the songs are great as is the music. Steve Winwood plays keyboards on some of the tracks, particularly “Real Love” which has some of the best piano and organ combinations you’ll ever hear. Other great tracks on this album, almost all of them are great include, “the Pie”, “I Was In Chains”, “Dream Kid” and “Arms of Mary”. The sound quality of this greatest hits album is top notch and I totally recommend this album to everyone. My only criticism is they should have credited which musician plays on each track. I know Steve Winwood plays on a bunch of the first few tracks but Tim Renwick also plays on several of the tracks labelled just the Sutherland Brothers as well as the tracks labelled the Sutherland Brothers and Quiver. I actually saw the Sutherland Brothers live in Concert a few times in the 70′s and unlike musicians of today, they did a great job performing their music live.
