The Mentalist Simon Baker is Red John Sales Marketing Genius

Like millions of other people watching CBS “The Mentalist”, I’ve guessed who the show’s unseen Arch Villain Red John is and if he’s been actually shown on “The Mentalist” in his everyday alter ego, it’s probably old 24 Misguided Stabbed but Not Out President Charles Logan himself, Gregory Itzin as the now retired Virgil Minelli, Head of the CBI (that is a ridiculous name). From a sales marketing bonanza though, if CBS was really smart and wanted to make tons and tons of money, it would be revealed on the Grand Finale of The Mentalist whenever it is, that Patrick Jane played fantastically by Simon Baker, is Red John and suffers from a Split Personality. This would be a marketing bonanza as more people than usual would want to buy or rent The Mentalist on DVD to rewatch the episodes with a new perspective of seeing Patrick Jane (Simon Baker) as a psychopath not a hero. The same thing when the Mentalist goes into Syndication. Now I’m guessing CBS doesn’t have the balls to do this and in fact there probably will be an episode down the line in which Patrick Jane is arrested for being Red John but in the end proves he’s not.
As far as Virgil Minelli being Red John, this is either so obvious or a great Red Herring by the show. Basically, Minelli as far as I know, hired Patrick Jane, has overseen the Red John investigation, hired the older Secretary who was an ally to Red John and killed members of the Red John Task Force and retired suddenly just after those CBI members were killed.
Even though I don’t consider the plots on “The Mentalist” that good, I watch the show for the great acting by the cast, especially Simon Baker who owns his part. It’s maybe an intriguing idea for some, but from the way I see it, Red John revealed as Patrick Jane would be a sales marketing bust. Legions of Jane’s adoring fans would feel betrayed. This wounded hero aspires to revenge, but seems to viewers to be instead working his way toward redemption. Suddenly turning the snarky and charming Jane into a villain would be a finale in a true sense, for it would discourage DVD sales, or continued viewing of repeats. That would be it for the Mentalist … one final shocker that would ensure that everyone would want to be done with it forever.
