Thin Lizzy Vagabonds Kings Warriors Angels Review Great Box Set (Repost)

While I’ve always liked Thin Lizzy, I only owned a few of their albums as I was not a rabid fan. Having said that, I just bought Thin Lizzy Vagabonds, Kings, Warriors, Angels 4 CD Box Set shaped inside a 100 page book and it is one of the best Box Sets I’ve ever heard. I’d recommend Vagabonds, Kings, Warriors, Angels to any fans of guitar rock as the guitar playing on this album is incredible by Eric Bell, Gary Moore, Scott Borham, Brian Robertson, Snowy White and John Sykes, all Thin Lizzy guitarists in various line-ups. Brian Downey, Thin Lizzy drummer, deserves a special shout out for some equally incredible and innovative drumming. Finally there is of course Mr. Thin Lizzy, the late Phil Lynott, a great vocalist, innovative bass player and terrific songwriter. The 73 tracks on this album are almost all winners, with some incredibly great numbers and absolutely fantastic audio sound. The rest of this review follows after the track listing:

All 4 CDS are excellent, in chronological recording order, but I prefer the first two CDs over CD 3 and 4, which I’m guessing may be put me at odds with most Thin Lizzy fans, because for me personally the tracks on CD 1 and 2 sound more original and different while the tracks on CD 3 and 4 sound formalistic, albeit quite good. I also prefer Eric Bell’s guitar playing over the other great Thin Lizzy guitarists. Don’t hate me Thin Lizzy fans, I realize I am totally in the minority on this but I just wanted to voice my honest opinion. My favorite tracks on Vagabonds, Kings, Warriors, Angels are: Remembering Part 2, Brought Down, Whiskey in the Jar, Vagabond of the Western World, Little Girl in Bloom, The Boys are Back in town, Jail Break with my absolutely favorite being the gorgeous Philomena which Phil Lynott wrote for his mother, Philomena.

Cosmetically, this Box Set is great as its basically a 100 page hardcover book with the 4 CDS on the left side of the book, filled with great pictures, track credits and an essay on Thin Lizzy. My only bit of criticism, and this is petty because this is one great package and box set is, I wish the pictures were identified and I thought the essay was “Yada, Yada, Yada” and added no information or useful knowledge to me, but that’s just quibbling. This is one of the best box sets ever and the price is incredibly cheap. You can get it for as low as $45.25 new by clicking this web site here.
